URGENT UPDATE - The energy price cap increased by £693 (54%) on 1 April 2022. It looks set to increase by another £600 on 1 October 2022.
- Households with average energy usage, paying by direct debit, have seen their energy bills increase to £1,971
- This is on top of the £96 increase on 1 April 2021 and the £139 increase on 1 October 2021.
Three increases in a row adding £928 to energy bills in in a little over a year
- If you pay by prepayment meter, or quarterly by cheque, you faired even worse.
Your new energy bills now come in at over £2,000
- This increase affects 22 million households to the tune of over £15 billion a year. If that doesn't mean you, then you are very, very lucky.
The war in Ukraine, the resultant sanctions on Russian energy exports and the risk of energy supply disruptions will keep energy prices high for a while to come. Against this background it is difficult to see energy switching coming back to save the day. Sorry to say, but we are all locked into the energy deal we have for the time being.
